When my partner and I got married in September last year, I knew I wanted to bring a personal touch to the celebration—not just with decor or vows, but with something sweet. Since baking is a big passion of mine, it felt only natural to create all the desserts myself. It was both a huge challenge and one of the most rewarding parts of our wedding experience.
We hosted the celebration at a large farmhouse in the Netherlands, where we live. The venue had a cozy, DIY feel that matched our style perfectly, and we were lucky to stay there for a few days leading up to the big event. This gave me the time and space to prep all the desserts while soaking in the magic of that pre-wedding calm.
We had around 100 guests and the dessert table was a full-on sugar-fueled hit. Honestly, watching our friends and family swarm the dessert table and demolish nearly everything within 15 minutes was one of my absolute top 3 moments of the entire day. It was pure joy. 😊
Here’s What I Made:
🍋 Lemon Coconut Cake
A light and zesty lemon sponge paired with creamy coconut frosting. This one had a bright, tropical flavor that really stood out on the table.

🥕 Carrot Cake
Moist, warmly spiced, and crowned with a carrot ribbon rose on top. This one was a crowd-pleaser, especially with its rich cream cheese frosting.

❤️ Red Velvet Cake
This cake was extra special. It had that classic velvety texture with a touch of cocoa, layered with tangy cream cheese frosting. The piped red buttercream cascading down the side gave it a dramatic look.

🍫 Chocolate Babka
Twisted layers of rich chocolate and soft dough made this babka a bit more indulgent. It was the perfect finger food for chocolate lovers.
🫐 Sugar-Free Blueberry Cheesecake
Made especially for my wife’s stepdad, who is diabetic. I wanted to ensure everyone could enjoy dessert, so I crafted a version using natural sweeteners. It was creamy, fruity, and surprisingly guilt-free!
🍪 Forest Fruit Jam Sandwich Cookies
These delicate little cookies were filled with a tangy forest fruit jam and dusted with powdered sugar—perfect with a cup of coffee after dinner.
🍪 Oatmeal Cookies with Marsala Wine Glaze
A soft, chewy cookie with a grown-up twist. The Marsala glaze added a rich, caramel-like depth that turned a classic into something unique.
A Sweet Success
Pulling off a full DIY dessert table for 100 guests was no small feat, but I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. It wasn’t just about the food—it was about creating something meaningful with my own hands, something that felt like “us.” The whole experience added a beautiful layer of intention to the day.
If you’re thinking about making your own wedding desserts, my advice is: go for it! With some planning, love, and maybe a few late-night baking sessions, it can become one of the most special parts of your wedding story.
